Variety of sushi: Somewhat broader than average.
Freshness of sushi: Fresh.

``My metric for a sushi restaurant is the quality of the sushi/sashimi combo. On this scale, Nagano fares fairly well. The chefs clearly have an eye for presentation, and the selection includes such exotica as tako (in my experience, rarely seen in such collected dishes).

``Beyond the basics, the selection is fairly good. While the noodle dishes leave a bit to be desired, the sushi choices include a wide range of vegetarian options and even natto, hardly common in restaurants catering to U.S. tastes.

``Morris County is legendary for its draconian liquor laws; bring beer if you want it, as Nagano is not among the few local restaurants with a liquour license.

``One other comment: if you are, alas, stuck in Morris County and seeking sushi, Nagano is far and away the best option.''
