``My dining experience at Genji was entirely opposite of the previous posting. I went there for dinner few months ago and I was very impressed by their food quality and attentive service provided. Tasty sushi and yummy beef teriyaki! I went there to have lunch yesterday (Tuesday) with my colleagues. The sushi we ordered was again very tasty and the server was very polite and friendly. I was reminded to go there to eat after reading Ottawa Magazine's November [2007] edition (included in last Sunday's Ottawa Citizen). Ottawa Magazine gave 4.5 star rating (out of 5) to Genji and also ranked Genji the the second top reviewed restaurant in 2007 (the first top one was Domus). [...]''

``Just had lunch there...my feelings: Don't eat there. They were the rudest and slowest people i have dealt with in a long time and do not deserve my business ever again. I gave it a shot, watched people come in after me and (not only get served before me) but finish before me. Completely outrageous. Then when asking the manager what what was going on, instead of saying sorry your food will come soon, he challenged me and said it is not ``fast food'' and that I haven't been waiting that long. I ordered a sushi lunch platter consisting of the most basic items and waited for over 40 minutes before having to leave and taking my food as takeout. I am noticeably pissed off with that place for their utter lack of respect for the customer. If looking for a place to eat sushi in Ottawa, i suggest Wasabi in the market. Do not support Genji.''

``Of all the Japanese restaurant I've been to so far, I think Genji is one of the best Japanese Restaurants in Ottawa. Repeatable food quality and service, and the prices are very very good.
``It doesn't have the Japanese decor like most of the Japanese restaurants have, but the food is better and more varied. In addition to sushi and sashimi, we could go there for a great meal that doesn't even get to sushi!
``Last time we went was Friday. I was packed. So, I recommend that you make your reservation before you go. ''

``Good vegetarian sushi choices.
``I really like sushi, and am always on the hunt for a good vegetarian roll. I really enjoy eating at Genji because they have many vegi options:
``(1) Avocado and Cucumber rolls are fresh and refreshing. (2) Vegetable Tempura is super good. (3) Grilled eggplant is very tasty. (4) Sweet potato is a must-have if you come to Genji.
``I have found the service to be consistently pleasant, with a couple servers who stand out as exceptional. ''

``As requested by the owner, I post my review to give my two cents comment here. Genji offers a very good menu for vegetarians. We went to Genji for dinner twice already and have tried the following dishes: grilled eggplant, sweet potato maki, vegetarian maki, futomaki, tamago, inari (tofu pocket), tempura banana with lichee ice cream (dessert).
``Complimentary green tea was replenished very often. We enjoyed our meal at Genji very much and voted Genji the best Japanese restaurant for vegetarians in Ottawa. The owner also took photos of us. When we went home and checked my emails, I already saw the photos in my inbox. I was very impressed by this.''

``Based on an Ottawa Citizen review about Genji, I went there for dinner in April. I ordered spicy tuna, spicy butterfish, rainbow maki and the Alaska roll. Sushi was fresh! From then on, I made subsequent visits and brought my friends there. All my friends like their sushi very much. Genji is by far the best in downtown Ottawa in terms of price, value, and selection. Highly recommended to everyone!''

``This non-Japanese owned and operated 'Japanese restaurant' opened recently. The food was very bad and extremely disappointing from start to finish. The medusa tempura (appetizer) was cooked in bad oil (it was dark brown, not golden) and we couldn't taste any of the veggies or sea foods inside. The salmon and fake-crab 'sushi pizza' were just plain gross: I couldn't eat it, and neither could the people sitting behind us. The sushi looked and tasted like bad grocery-store sushi. The tuna tasted like water and nothing else, the squid could not be chewed. Every piece was completely covered with wasabi (in an effort to add some taste I assume). Some pieces of our sushi assortment we didn't even dare taste. To add insult to injury, the sushi assortment was overpriced. We left the place extremely angry. No wonder there were no Japanese eating inside.''
